Overview

This introductory Python Coursera course is designed to be approachable for anyone of any level of familiarity with programming. We did our best to make sure that no matter your level of expertise, there are things to learn here. This course will teach you more than just coding skills. We believe in the power of CS not just as a technical tool, but also as a way to shape the world around us. Considering this, not only do we guide you through the technical skills of coding, but we also go into the process of designing your own coding project and considering its potential impact.

In just four weeks, you’ll be able to unlock your creativity by designing your own text adventure game, auto-generating a poem, and developing a personalized calculator, among other projects. You’ll develop the skills to do these projects through open-ended assignments that let you decide how to show us what you’ve learned. Your assignments will receive automated feedback on whether your code meets requirements. But you get to choose what the code does because many of our assignments are open-ended. For example, by Week 2 of the course, you’ll create code that could generate song lyrics, a poem, a story, or whatever text you want! In this way, you’ll develop an understanding of how to use Python practically for your own personal or professional goals.
